Weekly Review 03/08/2019

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 3rd August 2019. 800yds. W & J Brown Shield.

Saturday saw the largest roll up of shooters for club competition in some time but fortunately the new electronic target systems coped well without any problems enabling all shooters to finish in time. It is planned to bring another electronic target into service during the week to get shooters finished earlier from next Saturday onward. Once again fine weather made it enjoyable to be out soaking up the sunshine earlier in the afternoon with a light to moderate breeze from the south west which repeatedly swung to the west and occasionally increased in strength as well. This ensured shooters had to be very vigilant watching flags and mirage to capitalise on their score.

In TR class current club champion Graeme Bright shot very well to take the days honours by merely one centre bull from new shooter Hayden Booth who has taken to shooting TR class like a duck to water and was also coached extremely well by Graeme to do so. Gordon Shepherd finished next up three points further down with a couple of consistent stages that were just not quite tight enough to close the gap. Dennis Lavelle and Ron Gibson were the tailenders another four points down with Dennis in front scoring four more centre bulls.

With twelve shooters in F class and five of those being new shooters, club members were kept busy coaching as well as shooting. Top honours for the day went to Graham Willis only dropping two points in his first stage and capitalising with a possible to finish two points ahead of Geoff Willis who also managed a second stage possible but had lost four points in the first stage. Next up was Col Howell finishing another two points down leading a group of five shooters who all scored one point over the next, in order Nick Webster then new shooters Nikita Booth who would have equalled top score for the day if not for putting a shot on the wrong target, and Zara Coorey who are both quickly showing skill at the game, with Jeff Eppleston rounding out that group with slightly bigger grouping than he would be happy with. Next was Phil Mahon, Michael Phillips and Ben Wright all finishing four points down from the previous group with Phil holding excellent elevation in the first stage and gaining two more super centres than the others. Eloise Weekes finished next with a three point lead over Aaron Druitt as they competed with the club 223 rifle, Aaron recently came along to try shooting which introduced Eloise to target shooting.

This week we jumped forward in the program to shoot the second round of the W & J Brown Shield. Next week we will move to the first round of the W & J Brown Shield from 700 yards then returning to 600 yards in a couple of weeks to finish the third and final round of the J Sibera Trophy. Please note new shooters will need results from a total of four daily scores at each range to enable range handicapping to be applied, good luck we all look forward to greater competition.
