Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 6^th April 2019. 800yds. Captains Trophy.   

Last Saturday was thankfully a vast improvement in weather to the previous week with sunshine and very little cloud in the morning. From about midday on the west to north westerly wind  strengthened a little and continued to drop off and gust at times as it swung occasionally to come from the south west. Scores were much improved over the previous week although there was still a reasonable level of difficulty overall.

The top target rifle score for the day and CoW went to Graeme Bright who also had the best stage of the day with 50.5, Steve Williams was only one point away with next best score for the day. Gordon Shepherd finished a further point down for the day after also starting with a great 50.3 first stage but a difficult patch of wind later on proved costly. Dennis Lavelle had consistency in scoring but a bigger group in the second stage kept his days score back from the leaders. Ron Gibson appeared to not group the shots as tightly as he would have liked and although held steady for a better group in the second stage unfortunately gremlins ruled over the last shot.

F Class shooters fared similarly in the conditions with Jeff Eppleston again showing the way with a top stage of the day 59.3 to start off, gaining the days CoW. Ben Wright is continuing to power ahead with his new rifle helping to keep them in the middle achieving next best score for the day and top centre count for F Class. The Willis brothers, Graham and Geoff were both locked on the same score one point further down. Phil Mahon had a great 58.4 for his second stage to make up for a bad start earlier on. Nick Webster was not up to his usual standard losing points to an unexplained low flyer shot to ruin a good first stage and a couple of wide shots later on to hold the second stage score back.

Next week is the second round of the Captains Trophy and a 900 yards Championship shoot.
