Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 6th July 2019. 800yds. C R Kelly Cup.

The second round of The CR Kelly Cup was contested on Saturday at 800 yards with shooters having to deal with a northerly breeze that blew up the range from behind as it switched from one side to the other. Most shooters managed to get at least one good stage for the day with a couple not so lucky.

Steve Williams showed how a break away may help by taking out the days honours in TR class with an excellent double possible for the day with Gordon shepherd next after a good first stage but finishing five points behind after finding the magpie ring in the second stage. Graeme Bright and Dennis Lavelle both couldn’t quite keep up the pace in the conditions although they both had a good start to their second stages of the days shooting.

Graham Willis again got the days honours in F Class after a steady start in his first stage and then keeping all shots in the middle of the target for a top stage of the day finish. Phil Mahon continues to improve his scores and with two consistent stages finished up next best for the day four points back and three points ahead of Col Howell who had too many shots blown wide in the first stage but managed to keep all but one in the centre for his second stage. New shooter Michael Phillips tried out again and after settling down late in the first stage had a good hit for his second stage showing a big improvement over the previous two difficult weeks to score close to his achievements of several weeks back.

Next week will be at 900 yards for the third round of the CR Kelly Cup and the first 900 yard range for the 2020 Club Championship series.
