Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 9^nd January 2021, L Williams Cup 600 yards.

          The final round of the L Williams Cup was completed on Saturday afternoon at 600 yards with a light east to south easterly breeze that appeared to drop off to nothing at times but often it was very hard to read and keep up with the small changes that appeared to effect the F Class shooters slightly more than the Target Rifle shooters.

          Graeme Bright again kept the pressure up to take the day with a one point advantage over John Coghill who has been more consistent lately. Steve Williams finished another point behind after a slow start although he tried to make amends with the day’s top stage score for his second stage to pull five points ahead of Gordon Shepherd who crashed badly at the end of his second stage. Dennis Lavelle trailed two points further down finishing one point in front of Ron Gibson who struggled to keep his group near the centre on the day.

          In F Class Jeff Eppleston managed a very consistent days shooting to lead the pack with Phil Mahon just two points behind from his first stage score and Col Howell another two points down after a slow start to his first stage score. Graham Willis finished another two points down after unsuccessfully trying to make up lost ground in his second stage with Geoff Willis suffering a similar fate late in his second stage to be a further point down. Auskir Berryman tailed the field also suffering more points lost later in the day. Visiting shooter Luke Harris again tried his .308 rifle with reasonable success in his grouping on the target.

          John Coghill won the L Williams Cup (299.25) with runner up Phil Mahon (299). After completion of the L Williams Cup another round of the Treasurers Trophy was contested at 600 yards with Phil Mahon leading narrowly on handicap points over Steve Williams and Graeme Bright. 

          Next week we move back to 700 yards for the I Hughes and R Northcott Trophies competition followed by another round of the Treasurers Trophy.
