Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 10th July 2021, Diggers & G James Cups 500 Yards.

The fifth round of the Diggers & G James Cups was contested on Saturday at 500 yards and after some delays in getting the targets set up shooting did not commence until after the cloud cover had taken over and the temperature had dropped noticeably. Just a very slight southerly breeze ran predominately directly at the shooters with an occasional swing to slightly south east or south west giving opportunities for some good scoring and although no double possibles were gained there was a few single stage possibles scored with many shooting better than handicap.

Target Rifle shooter Steve Williams went closest to getting the lot losing just one point in his second stage finishing three points clear of Gordon Shepherd and Graeme Bright who traded stage scores to finish equal at days end. John Coghill started off well but appeared to lose momentum and points later finishing four points further in arrears followed by Dennis Lavelle who may have finished very near the top if not for a loss of concentration during the last shot each stage possibly causing a total ten points loss. Charlie Bennett had a slow start to his second stage shoot but settled to finish well as he continues learning the skills.

F Class shooters mostly scored well with three individual possible scores gained and only a three point spread between most scores with Geoff Willis leading one point ahead of a strong finishing Phil Mahon scoring his first possible since taking up the discipline. Three shooters then followed all two points away led by Col Howell with nine super centres then Jeff Eppleston and nick Webster with four super centres each. Mal wright tailed the field after struggling to keep shots centred during his first stage then looking promising during his second stage until the grouping of shots opened up again toward the end.

The final round of the Diggers and G James Cups will be contested next Saturday at 600 yards.
