Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 11th May 2019. 600yds. L Williams Cup.

Saturday’s 600 yard shoot began with a moderate but icy westerly blowing across the range which had all attending rugged up as though it was a midwinter’s day.

The Target Rifle group had F Class outnumbered for the first time in a while with 3 Bathurst F Class shooters attending a NSW State Team training weekend in Canberra.

It was a tight battle in TR with Dennis Lavelle leading the first stage shooting his .223 rifle to score 48.4 just one point ahead of Graeme Bright on 47.2 and Gordon Shepherd just another point down on 46.4.

The F Class group had Colin Howell leading the first stage with a very tidy 58.5, two points ahead of Nick Webster and Graham Willis both on 56.2s.

The second stage saw a switch on the leader board with Gordon Shepherd taking “Cock of the Walk” in TR, dropping only one point for a 49.2. Graeme Bright improved his first stage by 4 centre bulls to score 47.6 with Dennis Lavelle and Ron Gibson finishing with 46.2 and 46.1 respectively.

In F Class Willis’ consistency had him hang on to get the “CoW” with a total for the day of 111.4 with Colin Howell one point behind on 110.9 and Nick Webster a point less with 109.4.

The L Williams Cup was won by Colin Howell 296 ¾ with Ron Gibson 290 ½ runner up.

Next week we’re at 700 yards for the I Hughes & R Northcott Trophies with the following week, 25th May, being the final Championship shoot for the year at 900 yards.
