Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 15th January 2022 L Williams Cup 600 yards.

The final round of the L Williams Cup was contested on Saturday from 600 yards and with the threat of rain earlier the awnings were erected for comfort and safety which proved to be worthwhile during the afternoon. The north westerly breeze appeared benign early in the afternoon but gained in strength as it fluctuated during the afternoon giving only a few occasions of steadiness.

Steve Williams started strong in Target Rifle class not losing a point during his first stage score to take the days honours by one centre bull just holding off a good finish by Graeme Bright in his second stage score with Ron Gibson also scoring well during his second stage to finish two points behind the leaders. Gordon Shepherd and John Coghill then followed a further three points away each as they matched each other’s score until Gordon broke away with three extra centre bulls scored in his second stage while Dennis Lavelle trailed both by just one point on each stage.

The F Class shooters seemed to have more trouble than they should in the conditions with Geoff Willis again just holding off Col Howell for the leaders spot by a few super centres with Nick Webster and James Clarke following up to finish with their scores tied for the day six points off the leaders. Mal Wright did some load development shooting for group rather than score during the afternoon.

Winner of the L Williams Cup is Col Howell (298.84) with runner up G S Willis (297.42). Next week shooting will be at 700 yards for the I Hughes and R Northcott Trophies.
