Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 17rd August 2019. 600yds. J Sibera Trophy.

Saturday saw a return to shooting after the previous weeks shooting was postponed due to inclement weather. This brought us back to 600 yards for the final round of the J Sibera Trophy and another Club Championship round. With another great roll up of shooters the decision was made to set up and calibrate another of the new electronic targets prior to starting the shooting which used up some extra time early on but all shooters still managed to get through in time. The day began with the flags mostly hanging beside the poles, then finished later on with similar conditions but during the afternoon a tricky and hard to read at times west to south westerly came and went along with the accompanying mirage to upset most shooters chance at an easy days conditions.

In TR class Graeme Bright got the day’s honours dropping only three points after returning from a relatively successful QLD championships during the previous week where he won one of the long ranges in difficult conditions and picked up a badge in TR A grade for the three day series. Next up Steve Williams, Gordon Shepherd and Hayden Booth all finished one further point down for the day with Steve ahead on countback from Gordon on seven centre bulls each and Hayden with five centre bulls. Dennis Lavelle and Ron Gibson had a bit larger dispersion of shots to both finish another six points down although Dennis managed five centre bulls. Visiting shooter Boyd MacKinlay competing in TR Optical class had a reasonable shoot for the day dropping five points with eight centre bulls included.

Jeff Eppleston got serious for the day to take honours in F Class dropping only three points with Col Howell three more points away. Graham Willis and Ben Wright were neck and neck for the day another point down with Graham managing to top Ben with one extra super centre in the second stage. Geoff Willis could not tame the vertical spread of shots enough finishing another two points back and five points ahead of Nick Webster. Next came new shooter Zara Coorey ahead of Phil Mahon and then new shooter Nikita Booth, with both these new shooters looking forward to getting their own equipment and settling in to learning the art of long range shooting.

The J Sibera Trophy was won by Steve Williams (297) with runner up Col Howell (296.25). Next week we will be shooting from 900 yards for another round of the W & J Brown Shield and another Club Championship round.
