Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 18th July 2020, 600 yards Diggers & G James Cups.

Last Saturday again attracted a good field of club members for the final round of the Diggers & G James Cups competition which has been contested over the last six weeks and finishing at 600 yards. Saturday was also another Club Championship round and the third stage of the K Harvey Trophy on mostly sunny day with very slight breeze that varied during the afternoon from easterly to westerly causing just enough difficulty to lower the average of most shooters scores.

Of the Target Rifle shooters the top three all finished with a loss of five points each with Gordon Shepherd taking the honours after swapping scores with Graeme Bright for the days individual stages while John Coghill finished in third place four centre bulls behind after a great second stage score to catch up. Dennis Lavelle finished four points off the leaders although he accumulated six centre bulls for the day to finish three points ahead of Ron Gibson who claimed five centre bulls.

The F Class shooters were again left trying to catch Jeff Eppleston as he led with the best individual score for the day and followed up with next best stage to finish one point behind and one super centre off his score of the previous week. Next was Ben Wright with consistent shooting to finish three points further down and one super centre ahead of Geoff Willis who struggled with suitable ammunition and resorted to a hunting rifle for his second stage. Graham Willis finished next another four points behind scoring with groups a bit bigger than normal to be one point ahead of Phil Mahon and two ahead of Col Howell with all shooters suffering more vertical dispersion of shots than expected in the conditions. Nick Webster finished further down appearing to suffer even worse in the conditions with new shooter Auskir Berryman doing well as he tries out F Class shooting again, although having to shoot without a coach made it very difficult.

Next Saturday 25th July the club will be competing for the W Northcott Memorial Trophy, K Harvey Trophy forth round and a Club Championship round from 700 yards.
