Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 19th May 2018, I Hughes & R Northcott Trophies, 700yards

The day began with sunshine and a steady westerly breeze. That is, until the first shooters settled on the mound, the breeze then became stronger, gusty and switching, destroying any plans of improving scores on the final 700 yard range of the club championship.

Again, Nick Cock showed why he's the clear leader in the Target Rifle discipline of the club championship getting through his first stage with only a minor blemish, scoring 49.2. Followed by Graeme Bright 46.3, just ahead of Gordon Shepherd with 46.0

The majority of the F Class contingent didn't fair quite as well, all scoring in the low 50s, except for Jeff Eppleston, who seems to have benefited from a 4 week break from the mound, to take the lead after the first stage with a 57.2.

The second stage in Target Rifle saw Gordon Shepherd top scoring on 47.3 followed closely by Nick Cock and Graeme Bright both on 47.2 with Dennis Lavelle finding the conditions tough with his smaller calibre .223 rifle.

F Class produced much of the same in their second stage with the exception of Colin Howell putting in a great stage to score 58.3, just one "Super V" behind Jeff Eppleston with a 58.4 giving Eppleston the F Class CoW for the range.

Next week's 900 yard range will be the final range of the Club Championship and the first round of the Secretary's Trophy.
