Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 20th July 2019. 300yds. J Sibera Trophy.

Saturdays light winds and sunshine had plenty of shooters out to contest the first round of the J Sibera Trophy from 300 yards. A light breeze mostly from the northwest gave plenty of steady patches to allow high scores for some shooters. Numbers were also boosted with the return of a couple of Bathurst Rifle Club shooters who had been in Brisbane recently attending the National Championships and also as members of the Australian Rifle Teams competing in the Trans-Tasman F Class competitions against their New Zealand counterparts, with Australia taking out the F Open and FTR Class competitions.

The day’s honours in TR Class went to visiting former Bathurst club member Darren Crimston who has been shooting very well recently with Steve Williams only a couple of points away and Gordon Shepherd one more point down. Next down in the off rifle scoring was Graeme Bright who would have been reasonably happy with his efforts including ten centre bulls if not having placed a shot on the wrong target during his first stage, also finishing nine points down for the day was John Coghill returning for a shoot after almost six months away from the range. Dennis Lavelle finished a further point down having some equipment issues with Hayden Booth next having his first attempt at the more physically demanding TR discipline.

In F Class Col Howell topped the day losing only one point on the last shot of his first stage leading Geoff Willis by two points for the day as they both racked up ten super centres each. Two club members Ben Wright and Phil Mahon were next up a further eight points away and separated by three super centres. Of the three visiting F Class shooters, Toby Croaker gained one more point than the two club members with Aaron Druitt one point behind and Eloise Weekes merely another point down while scoring four super centres.

Next week is the second round of the J Sibera Trophy and another club championship round from 500 yards.

                                                                                                                                By Geoff Willis
