Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 21st May 2022 W & J Browne Trophy 900 yards.

Saturday saw the final round of the W & J Browne Trophy at 900 yards, which was the final Club Championship round for the year. This also completed shooting for several long term trophies including the completion of the Gurdon Cup and the Pratley Shield which have been competed for over the previous five ranges with the 800 yards not held due to range closures this year. Fine but overcast cloudy weather made for a great day to shoot and the variable south easterly breeze gave shooters plenty to think about when trying to keep them in the centre.

Target Rifle Class winner Gordon Shepherd fared the best after a good first stage score that kept Graeme Bright one point behind at the finish of shooting. John Coghill finished next with Ron Gibson to follow after never quite getting into his comfort zone on the day.

Jeff Eppleston cleaned up in F Class with a great second stage possible score no one could keep up with although Phil Mahon came closest finishing two points behind after his one point lead from his first stage score. Nick Webster did well to finish next best with a three point margin after completing his earlier commitments for the day with Geoff Willis falling behind after an even worse second stage score.

Winner of the W & J Browne Trophy is Gordon Shepherd (198.75) with runner up Graeme Bright (197). The days shooting also saw the completion of the following listed trophies and the winners: B Gurdon Cup- Winner Gordon Shepherd (494.50) runner up J Coghill (389.75); A N Pratley Shield- Winner C Howell (392.16) runner up P Mahon (384.24); A N Pratley Cup- Winner Mal Wright 1779.58) runner up G Shepherd (1762.75); QVM Trophy- Winner Mal Wright (798) runner up G Shepherd (795.75); Club Championship Target Rifle- Winner Steve Williams (787.73) runner up Graeme Bright (773.46); Club Championship F Class- Winner Geoff Willis (925.64) runner up Jeff Eppleston (905.35).

Next week shooting will be at 600 yards for the W & J Browne Consolation Trophy, this is the final shooting event for the year and also the last round of the Gurdon Shield and Treasurers Trophy.
