Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 22nd June 2019. 600yds. FA Wilde Trophy.

Saturday saw the second round of the 2020 Club Championship series and the third and final round of the FA Wilde Trophy which has been contested over the last three weeks at 300, 500 & 600 yards. Several shooters have been away training with the FTR development squad for the next F Class world championships to be held in South Africa in 2021 and also contesting the National Championships held in Brisbane last week. Although the weather has been cold several visitors have attended over the last two Saturdays to try out long range target shooting with some achieving quite good scores for their efforts.

Saturday 15th at 500 yards. In TR class Gordon Shepherd and Dennis Lavelle battled it out for the day’s honours with Gordon holding a two centre bull advantage. Graeme Bright finished one point off the lead in next place with Ron Gibson a few more points away. F Class was dominated by Ben Wright with a solid pair of 58’s for the day with Nick Webster next in line two points back. Graham Willis finished only one more point down next up after starting the day well with top individual stage of 59.3. Col Howell had a bit of an off day compared to his usual a further three points down. Angus Ogilvie is getting closer to having his gear set up and would be hoping for improvement when that happens over the next few weeks. Visitors Hayden Booth, Michael Phillips and Michael Stewart tried out F Class shooting with varying degrees of success, Hayden had a couple of great stages for a first try and Michael Phillips managed the best single stage score for the day of 59.6 while being coached.

On Sat 22th at 600 yds. In TR class Dennis Lavelle and Gordon Shepherd again having a close contest battled it out for a reversal of the previous week’s results with Dennis managing a one centre bull advantage for the days CoW. Ben Wright again led the way in F Class showing a clean pair of heals to the rest with a pair of 59’s to take the days CoW with Graham Willis five points away, then Col Howell and Nick Webster making up the rest of the field. Visitor Hayden Booth improved quite well over last week’s efforts with the club rifle while Michael Phillips suffered the tough conditions during the coached shooting.

The FA Wilde Trophy was won by Dennis Lavelle 298/300 with runner up Graham Willis 297.5/300.

Next week is another club championship round and start of CR Kelly Cup at the difficult 700 yards target.
