Weekly Review 24/08/2019

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 24th August 2019. 900yds. W & J Brown Shield.

Saturday started with very little breeze in the morning and the sun shining bright with a clear blue sky made for a pleasant day to be outside. By midday the wind had picked up from the west increasing in strength to around 20 k/h with some occasional stronger gusts and by the time shooting commenced the wind direction was swinging to come from the north-west and then back from the west again giving continual direction and strength changes for the shooters to contend with. This made for a very challenging task to achieve high scores for this club championship round with the newer members and visitors experiencing how tough 900 yards at the Bathurst range can be.

In TR class Graeme Bright continued with his excellent form of late to take the days honours with an exceptional score only dropping three points for the day with six centre bulls. Ron Gibson was next best a further nine points down with Dennis Lavelle another two points away. Then came Hayden Booth two points further back but scoring six centre bulls to finish three centre bulls in front of Gordon Shepherd. Boyd Mackinlay who was shooting TR Optical class managed a very respectable second stage of the day dropping only one point in that stage.

The F Class shooters found the going just as hard with Ben Wright leading the day with twelve points down finishing one point ahead of Graham Willis who had one point over Jeff Eppleston and Geoff Willis. Visitor Leanne Tobin decided to see what long range target shooting was all about and achieved a creditable score for the day four points further down. Angus Ogilvie was next followed by new club members Zara Coorey and Nikita Booth who both contested the conditions with the club small calibre target rifle. Nick Webster and Phil Mahon both suffered badly in the strong variable conditions to tail out the F Class shooters.

Next week will be the W & J Brown Consolation shoot from 600 yards. It is hoped the postponed 700 yards range stage of the W & J Brown Shield will be finalised soon.
