Weekly Review 27/04/2019

Bathurst Rifle Club Inc. 27th April 2019. 300yds. L Williams Cup.

Following a week or more of stable autumn weather Saturday was forecast to produce gusty SW winds which really did not eventuate except for the very last shooters of the day. Together with the short range of 300 yards some good scores were expected from the nine shooters competing.

Of the two TR shooters that competed, Graeme Bright top scored finishing with a 49 to recover from a poor fist stage, to beat Ron Gibson’s 86.

Amongst the F classers Jeff Eppleston was the only one to master the conditions with a double possible 120 to take this weeks cock of the walk. Nick Webster also managed a 58 using the club 223 and a 57 with a brand new 308 barrel in his second stage, showing promise for a competitive future.

Ben Wright started with a bang scoring a fine 59 at his first stage but was beaten by the increasing wind at his second stage late in the day. Phil Mahon and Col Howell whilst maintaining good elevation were blown off centre both scoring 111 out of a potential 120.

Relative newcomer Angus Ogilvie struggled with the club 308 at his first stage but produced an excellent 59 at his second with a borrowed rifle. Angus is in the process of purchasing his own rifle so after a bit of experimentation and load development we are expecting yet more competition amongst the expanding F class brigade.

Steve Pelin only had time for a single stage and the wind showed its effect on his short range 6 ppc rifle shooting light projectiles.

Next Saturday at 1pm we continue the club championship with a 500-yard event. As always visitors are most welcome to attend.
