Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 30th March 2019. 700yds. K. Redding Trophy & Club Championship.

After some discussion about the prevailing weather, all who had come to brave the cold wind eventually decided to go ahead and shoot. The west to south westerly wind was gusting up to 30 kph at times. Looking up the flag line the flags were tipping toward the skies in a random fashion then dropping off and occasionally swinging to slightly from the north west. All making it extremely difficult to get a steady run in the conditions for a decent score and centre X’s were hard to get.

Of the TR shooters Gordon Shepherd held on the best, after a string of inner fours to finish his first stage, he then finished strongly to take the days TR CoW 5 points in front of Graeme Bright who held great elevation in the conditions for his second stage although had a wide spread of shots on the target. Ron Gibson had a slight improvement for his second stage finishing with a shot near the X ring centre but had trouble holding in the buffeting wind.

F class shooters suffered similarly with Col Howell getting the days CoW by a margin of only 2 centre X’s over Graham Willis with both holding steady in the rough conditions. Geoff Willis was first to shoot and quickly realised the hopes for a decent score were gone, things only got worse for the second stage with shots spreading across the target even more.

As the handicaps will testify the 700 yards target is difficult and the conditions last Saturday made it even more challenging. The K Redding Trophy was won by Graham Willis with a slim margin over runner up Col Howell.

Next week is the start of the Captains Trophy at 800 yards.
