R.I.P. Roger Northcott (1933-2021)

Bathurst Rifle Club is mourning the loss of club legend Roger Northcott (aka the Bathurst Burr).

For all of the second half of the 20th century, Roger was instrumental in the running of the club, being the secretary for close to 50years. At the same time, he was secretary of the Blue Mountains District Rifle Association, and both groups benefitted greatly from his organisational skills, as well as his knowledge and common sense approach.

In shooting terms there were few better. Surely he would be one of the best to never represent his state. He was club champion 14 times with the last 10 all in a row. He travelled and competed extensively, with victories in all the eastern states. However, such was the measure of the man and his reluctance to talk about himself, that it is difficult to quantify his many victories. His Queens badges could well number between 40 and 50. He just never seemed to miss out. Roger also won all of the major country prize meetings at least once.

When his eyesight and health started to fade he simply switched to F class and carried on. He was a natural marksman.

Roger will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bathurst Rifle Club is all the better for his lifetime of service.
