Bathurst Rifle Club Inc, 9th February 2019, Hon. R L Gilmour Cup, 600yards.

            We missed the rain on Saturday but not the wind. A gusty westerly which swung intermittently in the arc from south-west to north-west raked the open range and created a little havoc with sudden drop-offs catching everyone off guard.

            The scores were not disastrous but most were not keepers in terms of the Club Championship. Ben Wright was one who improved his Championship status and in doing so took out the Cock of the Walk in the F-class division relegating the last weeks Festival of Sydney winners to yesterdays heroes. The end result saw Wright (112.5) lead all day, just managing to hold off Jeff Eppleston (111.4) and Colin Howell (110.8) with Grahame Willis (105.3) and Geoff Willis (104.4) somewhat out of sorts. The pleasing aspect of the shoot was the form of new members Luke Engle (103.4) and Angus Ogilvie (99.1) both using the Club .223 rifle.

            In the target rifle division Steve Williams (95.05) outlasted all with a defining second stage 49.3 to snatch the COW from Graeme Bright (92.7) and Gordon Shepherd (92.03) who both edged Williams in the first stage. Williams blew his possible with a last shot inner four but easily accounted for the other two.

            B Grade target rifle was a race to the bottom with Dennis Lavelle (85.1) coming over the top of Darren Crimston (84.02) who wobbled severely at the end of his second stage shooting one too many magpie threes. John Coghill (72.0) continued his woeful run of form with faulty ammunition and loose sights condemning him to failure

             Shepherd won the historic R L Gilmour Esq. Cup from a disappointed Grahame Willis by 294 ¼ to 292 ½  

             Next Saturday will be a 700 yard Championship shoot as well as the start of the J Wilde Memorial Trophy.
