Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 18^th June 2022, Digger & G James Cups 300 yards.

          Saturday’s competition saw a move back to 300 yards for the start of the Diggers & G James Cups which are competed for over six days at 300, 500 and 600 yards. The magnificent weather on Saturday with only a light westerly breeze at times to think about appeared to be more difficult than it should have been for some shooters while a few managed to beat their handicap.

          Target Rifle class was dominated by Steve Williams who only let one shot slip out of the bull’s eye during the afternoon with Gordon Shepherd shooting steadily to finish next three points away followed by Graeme Bright who failed to keep the pressure up during his second stage shoot. Dennis Lavelle was a couple more points of the pace each stage followed by John Coghill and Ron Gibson.

          Mal Wright strung two solid stages together for the day to take honours in F Class with Nick Webster doing likewise but falling just a couple of super centres short. Phil Mahon came close to the leaders to finish three more points down for the day with visiting shooter Garry Café improving at each attempt to finish one more point away next. Auskir Berryman had a good first stage result but a slow start during his second stage held him back a further point. New shooter David Butler tried out various equipment along with daughter Jen who had her first go at long range shooting and improved greatly for her second stage shoot with their scores probably reflecting the quality of equipment as they switched gear trying it out for each stage. Geoff and Graham Willis went neck and neck with their scoring for the day and both would have been disappointed and wanting to improve next week. Jeff Eppleston was away this week attending a National FTR Team training weekend in Brisbane, the team is to compete in the F Class World Championships in South Africa next year after a two year delay.

          Next week will be the second round of the Diggers & G James Cups from 500 yards.
