Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 25th February 2023, F A Wilde Trophy 600 yards.

Saturday’s weather made for a great day to be out enjoying the warm sunshine for the final round of the F A Wilde Trophy at 600 yards but the switching northerly breeze rarely settled proving difficult for many shooters with only half the field shooting close to their handicaps.

Graeme Bright improved considerably during his second stage score to lead the Target Rifle shooters with John Coghill next also improving greatly in his second stage. James Clarke had a great day’s result shooting in Sporter Class with big improvements in his recent scores after a good barrel cleaning job.

Graham Willis topped the F Class shooters with the most consistent scoring on the day closely followed by Jeff Eppleston who finished one point behind and two points clear of Geoff Willis. Col Howell and Mal Wright finished next separated by just two super centres followed closely by Nick Webster and Phil Mahon separated by three super centres with visiting shooter Gary Cafe enjoying the day two points away next up. Dave Butler had trouble keeping them grouped in the middle mostly during his second stage in the difficult conditions.

Winner of the F A Wilde Trophy is Mal Wright (294.33) with runner up Geoff Willis (293.58). Next will be the start of the C R Kelly Cup to be contested over 700 yards on 4th March and then 900 yards on 18th March due to forced program changes this year.
