Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 9^th September 2023 

          The first Series of the 2024 Bathurst Rifle Club program was severely disrupted by unscheduled works carried out adjacent to the range with just half of the scheduled number of events completed and missing both 800 yard events but the final event from 900 yards was held as planned on the 26^th August. The handicap winners of the first series are: TRA- Graeme Bright (295.5), TRB- John Coghill (399.5), F Class Standard- Phil Mahon (593.41), F Class Open- Mal Wright (583.09, Sporter Class- J Clarke (300).

          The first event of the second series was held at 300 yds on the 2^nd September where it was great to see four new shooters come along to try out long range shooting. In TR Class Dennis Lavelle shot very well dropping only one point to lead Steve Williams by just one centre bull. Phil Mahon shot well to top the scores in F Class Standard.

          The second event of the new series was held last Saturday from 500 yards with a predominately west to south westerly breeze varying in strength and direction for most of the afternoon with just a few steady patches.

          Target Rifle shooter John Coghill was the lone competitor in his class on the day, it was good to see Dennis Lavelle again competing in TR Optical Class and continuing his great success of the last couple of events scoring well. James Clarke had one more week to wait for his new equipment and had to use a borrowed rifle which likely cost him a few points below his usual scores.

          F Class Standard was led by Jeff Eppleston who scored well to lead from Col Howell who grouped well on the target but couldn’t quite keep the shots centred with Dave Butler next continuing to experiment with his spare rifle with mixed results. Open Class was led by Geoff Willis (FTR) with Mal Wright (FO) next up followed by visiting shooter Aron Horder (FTR) trying out various ammunition. It was also good to see Garry Cafe (FO) coming along regularly after his recent good scores achieved at his first 900 yard shoot.
