Bathurst Rifle Club Inc., 25^th July 2020, 700 yards. W Northcott Memorial Trophy.

          The expected rain last Saturday was slow to arrive allowing all shooters to complete the day’s competition for the W Northcott Memorial Trophy, K Harvey Trophy and the first 700 yards round of this year’s Club Championship. The overcast weather and an almost complete lack of wind appeared to offer an opportunity for some good scores but there must have been some gremlins at play as almost all shooters were not able to capitalise on the conditions.

          Gordon Shepherd started with the best individual stage of the Target Rifle shooters during the day which allowed him to hang on to the top spot with a one point lead over Graeme Bright who couldn’t quite keep up his form of late. Dennis Lavelle and Ron Gibson both scored consistently for the day finishing another three points off the lead with Lavelle scoring six centre bulls and Gibson three.

          Col Howell had a slow start but came back with the top F Class stage for the day to finish one super centre in front of Jeff Eppleston after he was caught out later in the afternoon during the only bit of breeze that brought some light rain with it. Geoff Willis finished another point down cursing the shots that didn’t go in the middle with Phil Mahon trailing three points away just missing the six ring on too many occasions. Auskir Berryman tried out again after adjusting his scope to suit the longer ranges and continues to improve his skills.

          Next Saturday 1^st August the club will be back to 300 yards for the first round of the Gilmour Cup. 

          The winner of the W Northcott Memorial Trophy is C Howell (100) and runner up P Mahon (100). The previous week saw the completion of the Diggers and G James cups with the Diggers Cup Target Rifle won by G Bright (576.44) and runner up G Shepherd (574.43). The Diggers F Class Medal winner was J Eppleston (699.50) and runner up C Howell (685.48). The G James Cup winner was J Eppleston (594) and runner up G Shepherd (592.25).
